A team of Dillon planners attended and presented at the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) National Planning Conference “Generation” held July 3-6 in Ottawa, ON. Dillon was a bronze sponsor at the event.

- Virtual Reality - The Next Generation of Digital Technology for City Building - presented by Monica Belliveau, Morgan Boyco, Kiran Chhiba, Paolo Mazza
A hands-on workshop exploring this rapidly evolving technology including an interactive exploration of planning and engagement projects that have included VR. Potentials and pitfalls of immersive 3-D visualization were discussed with participants.
- Planning Practice and Reconciliation: Past experiences and future opportunities - Janice Barry (University of Waterloo), Melanie Harding (Sahtu Land Use Planning Board), Margaret Kralt, Stephen Stone, Amanda-Brea Watson
Recognizing the injustice Indigenous peoples have been - and continue to be - subjected to, this panel discussion focused on how planners can be a power of change. It included perspectives from non-indigenous professionals representing academia, public and private experience across Canada and what their personal reflections on reconciliation in practice
- The Canadian Climate Data Portal: providing climate data needed for resilience planning - Rory Baksh, Jamie Herring (HabitatSeven), Trevor Murdock (Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium), Abder Yagouti (Canadian Centre for Climate Services, Environment and Climate Change Canada)
This interactive session provided an overview of the new Canadian Climate Data Portal (ClimateData.ca) a tool supported by the Canadian Centre for Climate Services created through the collaboration of several partners to increase access to climate data and information.
The CIP/Dillon Scholarship was awarded to Erinn Lee, from the University of Guelph, at the conference.
Ann Joyner was elected as chair of the CIP College of Fellows, and elected to the CIP Board of Directors. Ann has over 20 years of experience specializing in environmental assessment, strategic growth management, sustainable design and corporate environmental management.
