Over the past five years, Dillon has been Suncor’s strategic technical consultant for the Third Party Pipeline Right-of-Way Benzene Assessment and Remediation Project. This year, the project and Sarnia Refinery's implementation team, were honoured as the winner in the Remediation Project Stakeholder Collaboration, Environment and Sustainability (small team) category. The project was also one of the top five finalists for Suncor's ultimate recognition, the President's Operational Excellence Award - Milestone Award.
Dillon's role included contamination assessment over 2 hectares, delineation planning, First Nation's support, remediation design, creation of a site-specific air quality monitoring program, protection of species at risk and other animals, supporting contracting and tendering, overseeing engineered remediation, assessment of monitoring results and devising long-term system management approaches.
The project was singled out in a recent presentation for special recognition by the affected First Nation and their consultant during the 2017 International Municipal Lawyers Association Conference on how to successfully consult with and engage a First Nation.
