Wilson Street, the main transportation corridor through the former Municipality of Ancaster downtown core, has a mix of urban and rural cross-sections supporting both commercial and residential developments. The pavement was structurally deficient, the storm sewer required improvements and an upsized watermain replacement was needed. The City of Hamilton retained Dillon to complete the design. The design delivery schedule was compressed to enable construction to be completed prior to the Canadian Open held in the Community of Ancaster the following year.

The complete design process including the stormwater study, utility coordination, public consultation and tendering, was completed to meet the City’s requirements within an eight-month time frame.

The final design included:

  • New urban road cross-section, sidewalks, cycling lanes
  • Intersection improvements
  • Pavement reconstruction and widening
  • New stormwater conveyance system
  • Replacement of 300 mm diameter watermain
  • Street lighting
  • New gateway feature
