The Newfoundland and Labrador Department of of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs retained Dillon to develop and analyze candidate scenarios to manage compostable organics from the municipal solid waste (MSW) stream generated on the island of Newfoundland.

The project involved the characterization of current waste management activities amongst the island’s eight management regions, the development of a 30-year waste quality/quantity forecast, evaluation/screening of candidate organics processing technologies, evaluation of partnering opportunities with industrial sector generators, development of an island-wide materials transportation model and the NPV cost and waste diversion analysis of seven management scenarios.
