Dillon Celebrates National Aboriginal Day

In celebration and recognition of National Aboriginal Day (NAD), Dillon’s Indigenous Services team will host presentations in select offices throughout the week to bring awareness of indigenous culture, heritage and highlight many of the outstanding achievements of Indigenous people. We invite you to join us by participating in the viewing: The Secret Path, Aboriginal Day Live 2017, and Wawahte Stories of Residential School Survivors. Dillon is very pleased to be able to celebrate NAD and wishes the very best for our colleagues and clients across Canada.

NAD was officially announced in 1996 by then Governor General of Canada, Roméo LeBlanc and falls on June 21st each year. This holiday is observed in every region across Canada and celebrates the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Dillon collaborates with a wide variety of Indigenous Communities projects across Canada including economic development; community plans; traditional knowledge and land use occupancy studies; and environmental assessment, rehabilitation and new construction of roads and water, wastewater and waste management systems.

As Dillon is a major provider of services to Indigenous communities, we will be exploring Call to Action #92: Business and Reconciliation, outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. This Call to Action encourages the corporate sector in Canada to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a reconciliation framework and to apply its principles, norms, and standards to corporate policy and core operational activities involving Indigenous peoples and their lands and resources. Dillon hopes to strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities by exploring opportunities to support this Call to Action.
