BC Housing's Tenant Engagement on Sustainability toolkit, has been awarded a Solid Waste Association of North America Award (SWANA) of Excellence in the Education Program Category. Dillon developed a sustainability toolkit following pilot waste management activities at four BC Housing sites. The piloted activities were evaluated for their overall success in terms of engagement and tenant satisfaction, waste reduction and diversion. Several resources were developed that enable social housing providers to replicate the activities and apply them in their own buildings to achieve their waste reduction and diversion goals.
SWANA’s Excellence Awards Program recognizes outstanding solid waste programs and facilities with environmentally and economically sound solid waste management practices. Winners demonstrate effective technologies and processes in system design and operations, worker and community health and safety, and successful public education and outreach programs. Programs must demonstrate that they are fiscally and environmentally responsible. The award will be presented at SWANA's annual WASTECON conference on August 23 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
