Dillon presented at the Northern Planning Conference

A team of Dillon planners presented at the Northern Planning Conference held in Whitehorse, YT. The conference brought together planners and other experts involved in the north to share, learn, build capacity and establish a northern planning network. 

Ann Peters led a brainstorming activity “Stirring the Pot:  Food for Thought” that was introduced at the opening reception and carried on over the three days of the conference.  Ann also moderated the break-out session “Governance - The Planning Context - Environmental Assessment,” focusing on the major role they play in land planning and decision making by default, by design and most recently by those led by indigenous groups.

Margaret Kralt and Anne Pigott presented “Community Driven Planning through Capacity Development in the Northwest Territories”. The presentation focused on developing meaningful community plans and zoning bylaws in small northern communities through a processes that includes capacity development and training.  Margaret also moderated the break-out session “Planning with Communities - Planning for Climate Change” focusing on developing hazard mitigation strategies to prepare for the impacts of climate change on northern infrastructure and communities.
