Dillon’s Winnipeg office hosted a Can-Struction event in advance of a volunteer night at Winnipeg Harvest. Winnipeg Harvest is a non-profit, community-based, food distribution and training centre whose goal is to “collect and share surplus food with people who are hungry and offer training opportunities to help people step up and out of poverty with an ultimate goal to eliminate the need for food banks in their community.”
The four teams were given $500 to purchase their starter groceries to build a structure made of cans and dried foods. The teams were encouraged to supplement the starter groceries with food and cash donations to further enhance their structures. After final completion, the total weight of the food donation was 832 kg which was transported to Winnipeg Harvest as part of Dillon’s volunteer night.
