Dillon transportation planners have significant role at 2015 Annual Canadian Urban Transit Association conference

A Dillon team of transportation planners presented and moderated sessions at the 2015 Annual Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) conference held in Winnipeg from May 30 to June 3. CUTA focuses their activities and services around transit systems for businesses, governments and affiliate members.

Bill Menzies, chair of CUTA’s Planning and Intelligent Transportation Systems sub-committee, led a group to identify priorities for industry based research and moderated a conference session on Bus Rapid Transit – Transitways: Moving Communities Forward, featuring projects in Mississauga, Winnipeg and Calgary.

Bill Menzies and Dave Krahn led a tour of the City of Winnipeg’s Southwest Transitway corridor; an award winning bus rapid transit (BRT) transitway with an initial stage placed into service in 2012 and a second stage currently being procured as a P3, with Dillon acting as functional designer and owner’s advocate during detailed design and construction.

Bill Menzies and Stephanie Simard presented “Using technology to perform detailed route analysis to increase ridership in a cost-effective manner.” The presentation focused on the use of intelligent transportation systems data for route and service planning for London Transit’s recent transit route and service standards review.

Tony D’Alessandro (Milton Transit) and Dennis Kar presented on “Milton GO Connect Service - A Dynamic Transit Pilot Project.” The presentation illustrates a unique application of “Integrated Mobility” using a mobile transit app to connect customers to the GO Transit commuter rail service using demand responsive transit shuttles and shared ride taxis.  View the presentation here.
