Andy Blackmer’s guest lecture on March 20, 2015 at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia will provide an overview of unconventional natural gas exploration and development covering geology and occurrence of unconventional natural gas; drilling techniques; well completion techniques (hydraulic fracturing); and water management. The protection of groundwater including potential exposure pathways, how they are, or can be, mitigated and the importance/benefit of baseline monitoring will also be discussed as part of a geology course.
Andy is a partner and professional geoscientist with over 30 years’ experience. He has been directly involved in the onshore oil and gas industry in the Maritimes for the past eight years. He has spoken on a number of occasions on topics relating to horizontal drilling, hydraulic fracturing and water management as well as some of the related risks, issues and how those are being mitigated as the oil and gas industry evolves.
