The City of Surrey recently awarded Dillon a three-year contract for management of the Salmon Habitat Restoration Program (SHaRP). Dillon has managed the delivery of each of the annual SHaRP programs for the City since its inaugural year of 1996. The new contract will cover our 24th, 25th and 26th consecutive years of delivery of this unique and innovative community-based environmental stewardship program!
Every summer and many fall seasons, Dillon hires and leads teams of post-secondary and secondary school students to help them gain career-oriented training and experience in habitat enhancement, environmental education and public outreach initiatives that advance and support the City’s corporate environmental management and sustainability commitments. Since the program’s inception, Dillon has employed over 653 SHaRP students who have contributed over 250,000 stewardship hours, attended over 690 community events, engaged with over 2,000 businesses and homeowners, distributed over 21,800 brochures, and planted over 86,800 native plants.” - Surrey Board of Trade. SHaRP is unique amongst North American municipalities: its integrated watershed-based approach; its commitment to career-oriented training for local youth; its longevity; and its delivery model. In 2017, the Surrey Board of Trade honoured Dillon with an Environment and Business Award, in the Large Business category, for our continued successful delivery of this important Program.
