BC Housing Lessons in Greener Living

BC Housing shared the lessons it learned from piloting activities designed to engage residents of multifamily dwellings in waste reduction and diversion. Dillon was retained to work on the waste diversion toolkit, part of the LiveGreen Sustainability Plan, from which many of the lessons were learned. As many jurisdictions move to zero waste initiatives the implementation of the greener living is timely. Dillon delivered customized engagement programs and activities in four pilot sites to determine what results could be achieved at social housing sites. Through the delivery of engagement activities, residents were able to gain new skills on waste reduction and diversion methods by breaking them down into easy to follow steps.

Alida Kusch, an Associate and Waste Management Specialist with Dillon, led the project engagement. She holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Science, a Dipl. T. in Chemical Engineering and a MA in Environmental Education and Communication. Her diverse set of skills and experiences include community outreach and public consultation programs, solid waste program development, and solid waste and recycling/reduction strategies for public and private sector clients.   Over the past few years her work has focused on the development of multi-family waste diversion strategies.
