Solid Waste Management for Northern and Remote Communities Published

Environment and Climate Change Canada recently published a planning and technical document for Solid Waste Management for Northern Remote Communities. The document provides guidance on best practices for the planning, design, operation, and eventually, closure of existing or new municipal solid waste facilities. It highlights high, medium, and lower-priority actions to reduce risks to human health and safety and prevent the releases of toxic substances to the air, water and land.

Dillon supported the development of the document with expertise in design, construction and operation of municipal solid waste facilities in northern climates. Our team reviewed previous studies for northern solid waste management systems and approaches; and developed a user-friendly guidance document for managing household, hazardous and bulky wastes, as well as scrap vehicle streams.
