City of Toronto Council Selects Gardiner Expressway Hybrid Alternative #3

The City of Toronto Council approved the design of the Gardiner Expressway East Environmental Assessment as the Hybrid 3 alternative. This design involves the removal of the Logan Ramps east of the Don River and the construction of a new Gardiner-Don Valley Parkway (DVP) link in a more northern location east of Cherry Street. This new alignment of the Gardiner-DVP link allows the Keating Precinct to be developed with direct access to the waterfront. The project includes public realm improvements along the Gardiner-Lake Shore Boulevard East corridor and a new multi-use pathway.

Waterfront Toronto and the City of Toronto retained Dillon to lead the Individual Environmental Assessment (EA) and Urban Design Study. Several alternatives were considered in the EA including the maintenance of the existing elevated expressway and the partial removal of the Gardiner.  A major focus of the study was to improve connections to the waterfront as well as accommodating all modes of transportation.
