Dillon Consulting has been recognized with a 2014 Ontario Public Works Association Project of the Year Award in the Transportation ($2 - $10M) Category for the Hannon Creek Realignment and Dartnall Road Extension project for the City of Hamilton.
The project was recognized for how a transportation project with the potential for a negative impact on the environment could result in an enhanced environment for aquatic and terrestrial habitat while still addressing transportation needs. The success of the project rested with having a multidiscipline, dedicated and talented team of Dillon staff focused on meeting our client's needs.
This project was completed in two parts - the Dartnall Road extension and widening, and the Hannon Creek realignment.
Dartnall Road was a two-lane rural road ending south of Rymal Road which needed to be extended to provide arterial access into the City of Hamilton Red Hill Business Park. As part of the road widening to four- and five-lane sections, a new watermain, street lighting and sidewalks were constructed.
Hannon Creek traverses the new Dartnall Road corridor and realignment of this creek which included floodplain and new culvert construction was required to facilitate the extension of Dartnall Road.
Detailed design, ecological studies, assistance for the acquisition of lands for the road improvements, creek realignment and floodplain construction, as well as technical assistance during construction was provided.
