Structural Engineer (1 of 5)

Location: one location, either: Windsor, Chatham, London or Kitchener

Responsibilities:

• Structural design and analysis of buildings, bridges, industrial projects and various other structures

• Management of structural engineering and/or multi-discipline projects, and development of cost-effective design solutions

• Preparation of proposals, design criteria, preliminary and detailed designs, specifications, and reports

• Liaison with clients, government and regulatory authorities, and contractors

• Development and enhancement of client relationships and business growth

• Contribution to the career development of more junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring

• Contributions to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees

• Business travel upon request

Qualifications:

• A degree in civil engineering with a specific focus on structural design

• Licensed to practice as a professional engineer in Ontario, or eligible to be licensed within six months

• A minimum of 10 to 15 years’ relevant structural design experience

Experience:

• Demonstrated success in the leadership of multi-disciplinary project teams and the management of structural engineering projects

• Experience in the structural design of industrial and commercial buildings; liquid-retaining structures, bridges and other transportation structures

• Knowledge of relevant structural engineering codes and standards

• Familiarity with structural analysis and design software such as STAAD or PCA software, as well as proficiency in current AutoCAD and building systems software is desirable

• Experience in construction contract administration would be an asset

• Strong interpersonal, communications, organization and time management skills

• Management of single and multi-discipline structural engineering projects and development of cost-effective design solutions

• Preparation of proposals, design criteria, preliminary designs, detailed engineering specifications, and reports

• Technical guidance and mentoring of project team members including other engineers, scientists and technical support staff

• Liaison with clients, government and regulatory authorities, and contractors

• Development and enhancement of client relationships and business growth

Qualifications:

• A degree in civil engineering

• Licensed to practice as a professional engineer in Manitoba and/or Ontario, or eligible to be licensed within six months

• A minimum of 10 years relevant structural design experience

Experience:

• Demonstrated success in the leadership of multidisciplinary project teams and the management of structural engineering projects

• Experience in the structural design of industrial and commercial buildings and liquid-retaining structures; some experience as well in the structural design of bridges and transportation structures would be an asset

• Knowledge of relevant structural engineering codes and standards

• Leadership of technical expertise on a variety of structural projects, including structural design and analysis of bridges, culverts and other transportation structures

• Development of specifications and details for drawing production in addition to code and regulatory review

• Creation of shop drawings and field services in design and construction

• Contribution to the development of client relationships and new business opportunities

• Input to the career development of more junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring

Qualifications:

• A degree in civil engineering

• Proven and comprehensive knowledge of relevant structural engineering codes and standards

• Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office family of products
